String & Keyboard Musik Program ®School teaching system box is a schools activities program designed for Local School or Public School Music Teachers available in various Countries.
Karen Karana Tse was born on October 30 in Hong Kong, China, and raised in Canada. Her upbringing provided her with the opportunity to pursue an education in piano music and study for a Master’s degree in Music Therapy, which ultimately led her to a career in children’s music education. At a young age, Karen underwent brain surgery to remove a blockage affecting blood flow.
Concerned about the potential impact of these surgeries on her brain
development, her medical caregivers encouraged her to begin music training and learn various musical instruments to aid in her recovery and stimulate her brain development.
Karen returned to Hong Kong in 2004 and began her career in music education. In subsequent years, Karen organized numerous Student Concerts at the Hong Kong Arts Centre and Hong Kong City Hall venues to help increase her students’ discipline and help build their confidence through competitive stage performances. Karen began her music education career in 2004 offering young children private piano lessons which later expanded to other Instrument, such as violin and harp.
In 2015, Karen created her U.K. registered signature String & Keyboard Musik Program® developed for educational learning settings and specifically designed for children aged 2 – 8 years old. The program strived to stimulate young students towards a more eager and proactive approach to engaging in music.
From 2016 to 2018, Karen participated in judging various open music festivals and competitions in Beijing, China.
Karen founded Inspire Kids Orchestra[1] in 2018 for under-privileged children where young aspiring musicians who studied in her education programs can participate in Hong Kong’s music culture and showcase their on-stage performance techniques.
From 2018 to current, Karen is the representative and organiser in Hong Kong and Macau for the National Star and Torch Art Talent Competition of China. [2] Karen was the Art Director in the 2018’s 50th Anniversary of The Yellow River and 60th Anniversary of Butterfly Lovers celebratory music event in Hong Kong announced in an on-air interview in Hong Kong’s TVB channel exposé. From 2019 to current, Karen is the representative in Hong Kong and Macau of China National Campus Health Action Event. [3] Karen published Music Dynamics Story Book[4] in 2019 to help young children discover the power of music in their young lives. In 2020, founded Children’s Music Fund Foundation China[5] in Foshan, China to offer underprivileged children in China an early music education environment, by providing them an enjoyable opportunity to build their confidence and allow them to express themselves through music.
In 2021, Karen participated in an online piano master class forum, Warum Musik für kinder wichtig ist[6] Berlin, Germany over the importance of music towards children. Karen’s String & Keyboard Musik Program® also partnered with Music Australia Network during their Kindergarten Music Festival for Young Children® [7]where she held online seminars for parents to review the positive influence music can have on children of kindergarten age. In the U.K., Karen held an online seminar, The Understanding of Music Seminar for Festival of Music organisation[8], to teach music composition. She also had been invited by Toronto, Healing Voice Services[9] to represent a Music Therapy project and was interviewed by CTV channel, Canada.
In 2022, Karen participated in a live stream performance at the Festival de Música Clásica de Nueva Creación
[10] in Barcelona, Spain. Karen was a livestream instructor at Masterclass Di Musica 2022|11] organised by Concorso in Rome, Italy to share her experiences in piano skills.
In France, Karen participated in an online class in conjunction with Magazine de l’éducation des enfants [12] to teach 3 – 6 years old, children musicals. In New York, New York, Karen was the organizer of The Music EDUCATOR Summit, [13] a 3-day virtual conference with nationally recognized educational leaders. In Germany, she was invited by German Music TV (Stingray Classica TV)[14] to shoot a music promotional video for the classical event in 2023.
In the meantime, Karen has been performing a Beethoven Series Moonlight Sonata with candlelights at London Freemasons Hall[15].
In 2022 – 2023 she performed Beethoven Series Moonlight Sonata in several International School Teachers Piano competitions and won the top 7 piano competitions in Germany, Italy, France, Poland, Singapore, the USA, and the U.K. Karen obtained an Australian Sydney Music Educators Awards in January 2023and in March she was interviewed by London’s BBC[16] introducing her new music composition.
From February to May 2023, Karen participated in Travel the World with Beethoven event. She has performed recitals and Masterclasses in Poland, Berlin, Paris, London, Rome, Texas, New York, Barcelona, Seoul, Melbourne, and Sydney. In June Karen participated in a live-stream performance in the Vancouver, Canada Beethoven of All[18] program and also performed Musica classica nel 2023 [19] live-streamed in Rome, Italy.
From July to October, Karen participated in judging various open music festivals and competitions in Los Angeles, United States at the Children Piano Competition [20], and in Miedzynarodowy Konkurs Pianistyczny Power Music in Warsaw, Poland, and perhaps she performed in Johann Sebastian Bach Live-Streaming Solo Recital & Master Class[21] in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, China, Shanghai, China, Beijing, China, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Singapore. She has organized 4 live-streamed school music programs for String & Keyboard Musik Program ® teachers, parents, and students to share her experiences in music skills in Tokyo, Japan, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Frankfurt, Germany, and Paris, France. Karen has created children’s music score sets (Music Sheets Piano • Violin • Harp • Percussion) [22] for young children aged 2 to 8 to accompany her String & Keyboard Musik Program® Rainbow Workshop teaching materials in November 2023.
From 2023 December to 2024 March Karen held a few of children’s music workshops|23] at the Kindergarten and Elementary in Seoul, Tokyo, Barcelona, Spain, Brighton, London, Los Angeles, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Singapore. From 2024 January to March, She was a live-stream instructor of Beethoven Master Class in Arte Century[24] London. She has participated in a live-stream performance at the Musica Insieme [25] and Concorso [26] in Italy.
From 2024 April to August Karen participated in the Travel the World with Beethoven Part 2 |[27] event. She has performed recitals and Masterclasses in Barcelona, Sweden, Frankfurt, New York, Toronto, Ho Chi Minh City, and Seoul. At the same time, Karen has performed several Live-Stream performances at Los Angeles Classical Music Culture [28]in Los Angeles, United States, Русский музыкальный фестиваль[29] Music Festival Chat in Russia and Schweitzer Dan Stares|30] in Switzerland.
In 2024 September to November Karen held several String & Keyboard Musik Program ®

If you walk into an elementary classroom, you might notice that everything is colour-coded: signs and charts on the wall to labels on bins to pieces of tape marking certain spots on the floor.
This is because colours are easy for most young children to recognize and differentiate between.
But in music, our baseline is black and white, the colors of standard notation. When first introducing music-reading, it can be challenging for young students to recognize patterns and organize the content visually when everything is black and white.
For this reason, colour can be a helpful tool when teaching music literacy and developing music-reading skills. “When we use colour in a systematic way it can help students retain information better than just using black and white.”
For some, this might look like using coloured notation, where each note of the scale is represented by a different colour. This is often used in beginning handbell music.
But this isn’t the only way to teach with colour.
Today, we’re sharing four simple ways to use colour to teach music literacy. But first, let’s talk about some of the benefits of using colour as a teaching tool.
The Benefits of Using Colour
Colour provides a quick way of sorting and organizing visual elements, especially elements that are the same.
In an article on colour-coding your classroom, “Colour coding is especially beneficial for students who are non-readers or who are just learning to read. When colour is involved, grouping, material organization, and differentiation become much, much easier.”
When things are colour-coded, children can easily learn how to match things that are the same and identify things that are similar, but different. “Colour helps break concepts down and make them easier to digest.”
Think about what that might look like in music: note values, melodic patterns, rhythmic patterns, steps vs. skips, dynamic markings, high vs. low, white keys vs. black keys on the piano, vowel sounds (colours!), and much more.
And this isn’t just for children; think about how helpful it is to organize and sort things by colour for youth and adults, especially concepts that are new and unfamiliar.
How to Use Colour to Teach Music Literacy
Use Coloured Notation
If you used handbells or handchimes in your teaching, you’ve likely encountered coloured notation. This is a helpful way for young musicians and new readers to identify different pitches on the staff and correlating, bell or chime.
Recommend using coloured notation in this context, when each person is responsible for playing only 1-2 notes (and therefore, keeping track of only 1-2 colours).
Handbells come in rainbow colours: one colour for each note in the diatonic (or chromatic) scale.
Colour-Code Musical Form
Colour is a great way to mark musical form and indicate different sections of a piece, especially when listening to a new song or piece (without notation).
Using paper or card stock , choose a different color to represent each section of a piece (displayed at the front of the room, for all to see). If you’re working one-on-one or with a small group, consider using paint chips. Cut the paint chip cards apart ahead of time and make a set for each student.
Similar to what you mentioned above, consider cutting each one into a different shape, as well (e.g. triangle, square, circle).

Colour-Code Musical Patterns and Motives
Tis strategy all the time with my elementary piano students. Always identifying patterns that are the same and different in music, and often, then will have them draw boxes around measures that are the same using a coloured marker or highlighter. This is a quick and easy way to see how the music is organized, recognize phrase construction, and understand how the patterns fit together.
Similarly, you might choose to colour-code a short rhythmic pattern, even if the pitches are different OR a short melodic pattern, even if the rhythm is different.
Recommend choosing 1-2 colours for this type of project. Keep it simple and uncluttered so the important element (repeated patterns and motives) remains prominent.

• Colour coded cards – a great introduction to bell- or chime-ringing use the chord approach.
• Colour coded fabric staff – includes 96 colored felt circles that match the colors of the Rhythm Band handbells. The Junior size (18″x14″) is small enough to hold or sit on a music stand; the larger size (28″x28″) has a rope at the top for easy hanging. It’s a great visual teaching aid for younger elementary children. Here is a quick video demonstration of how to use the color-coded fabric staff.
• Coloured coded marker set – great for creating your own chart-sized music or color-coding traditional black-and-white notation.
• Coloured code dots stickers- create your own chart-sized notation by using these stickers as the noteheads.
• Coloured code notation stickers great for creating individual music scores or as a fun composing activity for older elementary students.
• ChimeWorks Icon Chart – a suggested pairing of colored notation and shape-note notation.
Colour-Code Dynamic Markings
This is a fun way to observe dynamic markings in the score.
Students don’t often pay attention to dynamic markings in a new piece (and sometimes even in a piece we’ve been working on for a few weeks!).
Encourage students to play with dynamic expression from the beginning of learning a piece, rather than thinking of dynamics as something to add during the polishing phase. As such, sometimes we’ll take a minute early on in the process to study the score and colour-code the dynamics using something like this:
piano = blue mezzo piano = purple mezzo forte = pink forte = orange
Here’s a little insight into the psychology of these colour choices:
Orange is a bright, vibrant colour, though not as dominant as red. When used to highlight something, orange may help learners retain information. Similarly, “blue ink, or blue highlighting can be used to help improve reading comprehension.”
